This course is designed to challenge students to examine the political, social, economic, religious and cultural forces that have shaped our increasingly complex and interconnected planet. Since the beginning of what historians term the "Modern Era", the ideological values of Europe, and more recently the United States, have played a dominant role in forging the relationships between the regions of the world. This dominance has left a legacy that presents all nations with foreign and domestic policy issues that must be addressed in order to create both national and global security. Students investigate the historical background to current crises in Asia and Africa. Students engage in debates weighing multiple perspectives of both reasons for and potential solutions to the global challenges related to these regions in the world today.
